Beacon East Broker and organise a wide range of exciting professional development opportunities for teachers, lecturers, advisers and other education professionals. This professional development largely focuses on providing Professional Development Placements (PDPs) in business and industry. In partnership with the IEBE (Institute for Education Business Excellence), Beacon East also coordinates the Royal Academy of Engineering STEPS at Work PDP programme for the east region.

What are Professional Development Placements (PDPs)?
Professional Development Placements (PDPs) offer a unique form of professional development. In essence, PDPs will allow you to visit businesses and organisations to enhance your field of work in education. This may be to support your curriculum area, management skills or perhaps careers advice. Whether you are a teacher, lecturer, member of school support staff or working in any other field of education, maybe as a Local Authority Adviser or a Connexions Adviser; PDPs are available to you.
Ultimately, PDPs will not only support your own professional development but support your institution. PDPs have been invaluable in improving provision in a particular area e.g. curriculum provision, statutory KS 4 WRL (Work Related Learning), CEG (Careers Education & Guidance), IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) and Enterprise provision. PDP services have been well subscribed by teachers and other education professionals for many years and it is now regarded as an essential Education Business Link activity. In addition, PDPs are recognised by the Department for Education and other large education linked organisations as a vital form of professional development.
