OPITO Energy Industry Education Projects

OPITO is a highly respected global organisation representing the oil & gas industry and wider energy sector. Beacon East has worked in partnership with OPITO on a variety of exciting east region projects during the last 8 years. Beacon East currently delivers two OPITO funded education projects outlined below. All project delivery is free to schools & colleges.

OPITO Student Support Programme:

The energy industry awareness sessions open to secondary schools and colleges across Norfolk, Suffolk & Essex. The sessions have been introduced to help enhance careers advice in this key sector. Student sessions have been designed to inspire young people and highlight the vast range of opportunities in energy. It also aims to support the curriculum and dispel industry myths e.g. the industry is based offshore when only approximately 6% of oil and gas employees work offshore! With particular reference to supporting the 14-19 curriculum and careers, Beacon East can provide your institution with a trained industry adviser to deliver sessions on the energy industry from a flexible toolkit of presentations and activities. A session could include:

Targeted group sessions on career opportunities in the energy industry
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) curriculum activities
Kinex STEM challenge events
Parent or governor forums
Employability sessions
Assemblies
Careers events
Industry days

OPITO 'Pipeline of Information' CPD programmes for teachers and careers advisers:

This highly innovative professional development project has provided countless opportunities for teachers and advisers to spend quality time with companies in the energy sector both 'up-stream' and 'down-stream'. This has proved to be invaluable in terms of supporting schools with curriculum resources, case studies and information on careers. Numerous companies have kindly supporting this CPD programme over the years, including Perenco, npower, Shell, NHV Helicopters, Petans, Seajacks, Pharos Marine, Proserv, Gardline, Proeon Systems...
